WORDS Josh Stenberg
NOT FOR SALE
corpus sifting, streaming, jacent
trepidation’s beach; toes hoofing over wrack; till
youth, unalleviated; outstretched…
midst the tin pavilions the dukes consort
the fallen seamstress sews a son of zinc, of buttons:
make light! we’re sorry, the line is occupied
with silvergulls, marrow, pith. touch me of
thy salt full-fathomed lips, jonah, sebastian,
ishmael, gargantua, leviathan,
for the whale is great but the seas
are wholer and sheer commodious for
when and where and how and as we come luxuriously
apart
Artist statement
An invitation for the viewer to respond to the poem through deconstruction and reconstruction of installation elements. Installation elements respond to concepts within the poem and have been collected while walking bare foot on the beach and experiencing an innate deep connection and sense of awe that the ocean invokes.
This is an immersive process of discovery through connection and contemplation using touch and found objects.
Please know that elements will be returned to their original locations at the end of the exhibition.
