The Pause between Heartbeats

NOT FOR SALE

ART Deby Cann

Love, I pursued you all my days,
Plundered hearts, none other than mine,
Hunted and shunned for thousands of miles,
Each time trusting this is the last.

Over and over, up and down, seeking thrills on barren ground,
My heartbeats became so loud that I couldn’t hear the halt.
Shattering into pieces and floating in space,
In the fullness of time, the heart’s tranquil phase—

“Oh! That’s where you are, your grace.”

In you, wisdom takes on its purest hue,
The chase ends, for you’re the truth.
“With its last gasp, the mind asks, ‘Now what to do?‘”
Serene smiles — “Love!”
