Artist statement
Love as a concept connects us all. My main inspiration for creating these works was to represent the different kinds and different expressions of love. Lately, the media shows us the beauty of romance and intimacy but often forgets about other kinds of love. The Ancient Greeks categorised love into eight main categories: Agape, Eros, Ludus, Storge, Pragma, Mania, Philautia, and Philia. These range from familial partnerships, intense romance, deep bonds, obsession, and budding friendships. Each of these are not experienced extravagantly all the time. In our mundane day to day, small gestures and subconscious actions make up the majority of how we express our love.
I am only fourteen, I haven’t fully experienced every kind of love, and I don’t know if I ever will, but I do know that I care deeply for people and the environment. This kind of love features most prominently in my own life, friend and family bonds are among the most important to me. No one type of love is more important than another, friendships aren’t less than romantic relationships, value each relationship for what it is rather than the type of love you feel in it.
