Which kinds of love, through which creative lines, require our urgent attention, rapture, reflection, reimagining, curiosity, laughter and compassion?
The Salons returns to the Chrissie Cotter Gallery with love lines, a boutique program of art-after-hours experiences curated to respond to the theme of love.
Connecting artists and community to celebrate the joy of the arts in daily life, our love lines program features a diverse ensemble of over 20 established, emerging and student artists working and playing in the worlds of poetry, music and the visual arts.
The word artwork experiment
The Salons love lines exhibition introduces our word artwork experiment, with artists and poets collaborating to create new works.
Writers were invited to submit new, unpublished words that speak to the theme of love lines. Artists were given the words to create visual artworks.
The result is an explosion of creativity, showing the ways in which art infiltrates and transforms an idea. We invite you to see, interpret and, in some cases, touch and play with these new works, which cover the gamut of love’s meanings.

The Salons closing evening with poetry open-mic
To wrap up our love lines program, The Salons invites you to join us for our closing evening at the Chrissie Cotter Gallery. The evening's entertainment includes relaxed choral performances by vocal workshop singers, and poetry open-mic session.
Creative play day
Celebrate your love for nature by creatively caring for nature.
Our quirky play day will feature a miniature banquet of calming curiosities and simple pleasures, with nature-nurturing play stations including papermaking, bookmaking and bookbinding, hand-cut collage and homemade glues, found object bricolage and sculpture, textile transformation and sustainable framing.
A poetry of art workshop
The Salons is excited to present this contemplative, ekphrastic writing workshop with facilitator and poet Erin Shiel. Using the exhibits of the love lines exhibition as a springboard, workshop participants are invited to try four different ways to respond to art with poetry.
Word artwork: in conversation and performance
The Salons is proud to present poets Gillian Swain and Magdalena Ball, in conversation with Salons curator Angie Contini. Join us as we bring the word artwork experiment to life, through readings and discussions.
Vocal workshop 1: Space Oddity with The Third Voice
SPACE ODDITY BY DAVID BOWIE
… “planet earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do …" This two hour workshop experience offers an energetic immersion into the harmony and performance of David Bowie’s immortal and inspirational homage to isolation and loneliness, ‘Space Oddity’.
